BlacksmithingBlacksmithing is a crafting skill that primarily makes use of metal to make weapons, armor, tools and other items. It’s best to pair it with the mining skill on your character so that you can mine metal, as you will quickly exhaust any purchased metal while you are raising your skill. To use the blacksmithing skill to start crafting items you will need to equip a smith’s hammer and find an anvil. Typically, you will find an anvil in or around blacksmith shops. Once you have found one, move close to it and double click on the anvil while you have the smith’s hammer equipped to your character. This will open a blacksmith crafting menu and allow you to select items you wish to craft. As you raise your blacksmithing skill, you will gain access to new items you can make. ![]() Materials It should also be noted the type of metal you work with also affects the skill requirements to craft an item as well as the knowledge required to work with that material. Different materials will also affect the color of crafted items as well as the item's stats such as damage and durability. All changes are shown upon selecting a material. When crafting an item you will be able to select the material(s) you wish to use. All blacksmithing items require at least metal but some items will require a secondary resource such as wood or leather. If a secondary resource is required then a dropdown will be present to select a resource. ![]() Tip: Leather may be obtained from hunting animals and some monsters. Wood can be obtained by chopping trees with the lumberjacking skill. Work Order SelectionYou may also, optionally, select a work order that you want to fill when crafting an item. When a work order is selected and you craft an item it will be checked to see if the item can be used against that work order prior to creation, once created it will automatically be used to fill the work order. You may also specify quantities of items you wish to craft and whether the item should automatically be reattempted on failure. Tip: When crafting items, you can positively affect durability of items by raising your character's intelligence. Smelting ItemsWhen you craft extra items that may not meet your needs or the quality requirements of a work order, you can put them back in the forge and smelt them down to get some of the metal back that the item is made of. |
